Step 1: Determine the drain alignment

Firstly, you need to determine the positioning of drain pipes so the venting process can be accurately carried out. Usually, the pipes are placed in three different positions.

  • Indirect configuration: Indirect placement is used if the toilet drain is not directly linked with the vent. It is preferable to use a 45-degree street elbow and a reducing Y for connecting the drain with the vent.
  • Parallel configuration: Parallel configuration is used if the vent wall is parallel to the drain system. In this case, use a 45-degree reducing Y and steer the elbow to place the vent in the required position.
  • Opposite configuration: This type of connectivity is used if the vent is on the opposite side of the toilet drain pipe. A reducing Y and street elbow is preferred in this case.

Step 2: Arrange the principal drain line

After determining the placement of drain pipes, the next step is to arrange the main drain pipe for venting the toilet drain system. For this purpose, a 3-inch long pipe will be used to reach the vault or basement easily. Low-heel and Y-fitting are preferable for the alignment of the principal drain pipe.

Step 3: Install the assembly

The next step is to install an assembly against the wall. This step is often performed after the alignment of the principal drain line. Y-fitting is preferable so that there is enough space for installing other drain pipes. After arranging the pipes accurately, take out the assembly and fix the pieces with glue.

Step 4: Settle and seal

After installing the assembly and fixing the pipes, put the assembly back into the hole. Use low-heel for fixing the drain pipe. Carefully fix the drain pipe from the lower side as well.

Step 5: Arrange and apply adhesive

After the toilet drain is fixed, take a 3-inch drain pipe and 4×3 bend for low-heel fitting of the system. Make sure the middle point of the bend is 12 and a half inches away from the wall to maintain the correct distance. It is time to have a look at the new pipe in the incline position below the assembly.

After making all the necessary measurements, align the fittings and remove the assembly from the drain. Apply adhesive for attaching the small pieces in the venting system and connect the bend with a strap.

Step 6: Place another pipe

After attaching the drain with the help of adhesive, place another pipe parallel to the already installed pipeline. Align the parts with the newly installed pipe and fix them properly. Use Y-fitting to make sure that the wastewater is flowing in the right direction. Mark the existing pipe in correspondence with the newly installed parallel pipe and cut it accordingly.

It is recommended to use an elbow drain for the perfect flow of wastewater in the right direction. If you’re going for elbow fitting, you have to cut the existing pipeline as per the requirement. However, ensure that the pipes are placed accurately so the water doesn’t flow backward.

Step 7: Align the fittings of the pipeline.

Finally, place the parallel pipe with the existing toilet drain. You need to secure the existing pipe with additional support. Make sure you have fitted the cast-iron pipe properly. It is preferable to use 4×3 Y-fitting while connecting the pipes with the main drain pipe.

After providing additional support to the pipeline, ensure that the fittings are accurate and in accordance with the drain system. The most important thing is that the new pipe should be inclined in position. Now mark the pipes and again fix them with the help of adhesive.

Step 8: Take measurements and cut the pipes

Now take 2-inch long pipes and place them down the drain hole for the venting system. Take the measurements and cut the pipe above the ground to make it fit the existing pipe length. After taking all the necessary measures, align the fittings and remove the assembly from the drain. Apply adhesive for attaching the small pieces in the venting system.

Step 9: Dry-fit the drain pipe

Now use the dry fit method to connect the drain pipes with the principal sink pipe. Also, install a Y-fitting and street elbow fitting, assemble all the parts, and mark them, cutting the additional length of the pipeline. Make sure that the middle point of the bend is 12 and a half inches away from the wall to maintain the correct distance.

The pipe should have an incline of ¼ inches below the point of assembly. Install a 45-degree street elbow to make sure that there is sufficient space for both pipelines. The pipe should be accessible and installed in the correct position.

Step 10: Arrange the venting system and apply glue.

Apply the dry fit method by taking a 2-inch long pipe and placing it in the drain. Observe the drain and place the additional trap in an accurate position. Mark the assembly pipe and cut the extra pieces. After carefully assembling all the vent parts, take measurements and apply adhesive to the final pipelines.
