LIC AAO or LIC ADO? What is the difference?

Life Insurance Corporation of India is one of the most prestigious and the only public sector insurance companies in India. The corporation holds a major market share in the sector’s total insurance premiums and has offices across the nation. Therefore, it requires huge manpower for its expanded insurance business. To maintain itself as a leader in the field and to sustain itself in this competitive business, it has to create new, valuable and lucrative products and recruit people who can take the organization forward.

Getting a job at the Life Insurance Corporation of India is a dream for many aspirants. Candidates looking to apply for government job positions should consider applying for these upcoming government exams. The Apprentice Development Officer (ADO) and Assistant Administrative Officer (AAO) posts in LIC are sought-after jobs in the current situation. Both the posts provide job security and growth for those who want to make a career in the insurance sector. In terms of work profile, the job of Apprentice Development Officer involves more fieldwork, whereas, as an Assistant Administrative Officer, the work will involve more office work.

Some of the major responsibilities of an ADO are facilitating the recruitment and training process and assigning sales targets for LIC Agents. On the other hand, the responsibilities of an AAO involve filing and settling claims, monitoring existing insurance policies, and formulating new policies that can attract new customers.

Talking about the monetary benefits of getting the job of an ADO or an AAO at LIC, competitive salaries are offered for both posts. The basic pay of a LIC ADO is Rs 21,865/- per month whereas the fundamental compensation of an AAO is Rs 32, 795/ – each month. Nonetheless, notwithstanding the distinction in the essential compensation for these posts, the extra motivations are similar. Forse both the posts, there are other worthwhile stipends and advantages, alongside the fundamental compensation, that makes them pursued positions. The salary package includes around 40% dearness allowance, City Compensatory Allowance, etc.

To secure the position of an ADO or an AAO, all candidates must have some minimum qualifications that make them eligible to apply for the positions. Both ADO and AAO applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized university in India. To become eligible for applying for the post of ADO, a candidate must have 3 years of work experience, preferably in related fields. Whereas, no prior work experience is required for the post of AAO.

Examination and recruitment processes are conducted for shortlisting candidates for the positions of ADO and AAO. The exam for ADO is conducted in three phases-

  • Written exam – This is a computer-based exam and consists of two rounds, namely Round I: Preliminary Examination and Round II: Mains Examination. In the prelims, there are three basic sections: Reasoning Ability, Quantitative Aptitude, and English language. In Mains, there are three papers, Paper 1: Numerical and Reasoning Ability, Paper 2: General knowledge, current affairs and English language, and Paper 3: Insurance Marketing.
  • Interview –Candidates who clear the written exam are then called in for the interview as the next stage of the selection process.
  • Medical Test

Understanding the proper structure of the recruitment process is very important for any aspirant planning to apply for these positions. The LIC ADO examination has three categories for different candidates:

  • Open Market: This category is open for all candidates. Aspirants applying for the position of ADO in this category have to appear for both the Prelims and Mains examination.
  • LIC Employee:This category is open for the candidates who are salaried employees of LIC and are currently working in a different capacity. LIC employees applying for the position of ADO do not have to appear for the preliminary examination and can directly sit for the Mains papers.
  • LIC Agent:This category is open for candidates who already work as LIC agents. They only have to appear for the Mains examination in the written round.

Those aspirants who are already associated with LIC have a great opportunity to get into mainstream LIC positions by appearing directly in mains exams. It is a great way to move up in the organization.

The exam pattern for AAO includes three phases – the Preliminary Examination, the Mains Examination, and the Final Interview. Similar to the ADO written exam, aspirants who are LIC Employees and LIC agents only have to appear for the Mains examination.

The Prelims Examination of AAO tests the candidates based on their Reasoning Ability, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Language. On the other hand, the Mains paper is set to test specific subject knowledge depending upon the post applied for. The inclusion of an English language test is for qualifying purposes and is not considered while calculating the final score.

Talking about the posts under LIC AAO, 5 different posts under one cover a variety of work responsibilities. As all the five posts are functionally different positions under the LIC AAO, the educational qualifications required for each of the posts are also different. Following are the post-wise requirements of educational qualification:

  • AAO Generalist –Only a graduation degree in any discipline is required for applying for this post.
  • AAO IT –Aspirants applying for this post should have an undergraduate degree in the field of Engineering in computing, IT, or Electronics, or a Masters in Computer Applications, or a Master of Science in Computer Science.
  • AAO Chartered Accountant – This is a specialized post for Chartered Accountants. Any aspirant with an undergraduate degree in any discipline and having passed the final examination of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. Besides this, the candidate should also be an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.
  • AAO Actuarial –Alongside the base prerequisite of a college degree, applicants going after this job ought to have necessarily passed paper CT1 and CT5 in addition to at least four papers led by the Institute of Actuaries of India to get qualified.
  • AAO Rajbhasha –This post is for candidates who are proficient in Hindi and have a post-graduate degree in Hindi or Hindi Translation.

There are different eligibility criteria for applying to these positions. The candidates must ensure that they fulfill all the eligibility conditions before applying. For general candidates, the minimum age limit is 21 years and the maximum age limit is 30 years. Moreover, there is some age relaxation provided to the reserved category candidates appearing for both AAO and ADO.
