Colorado is a stunning state with some of the healthiest cities in the country and a well-established outdoor-sports culture – some of the best hiking, adventure sports, and whitewater rafting that the USA has to offer. Because of that, it’s also one of the best states to enjoy a little camping – but there are so many destinations to choose from it can be tricky to know where the best place to have your camping holiday is. Luckily, we’ve put together a little list here of our favorite Colorado Camping Spots.

Flat tops trail

Do you struggle to choose between somewhere accessible and somewhere that feels remote enough to really feel like camping? Flat Tops trail is the answer to your prayers. You can free camp all over this area but there are camping grounds too, and the scenery is pretty stunning. Although there’s no free camping in this wild area you can make a visit to Trapper’s Lake, and enjoy some of the surroundings as well as the outdoorsy activities offered there.

Canyon City Camping

Canyon City is one of the best places to camp in Colorado, with over 30 sites open around the perimeter of the city and near world-class climbing destinations. Its stunning landscapes offer fantastic opportunities to both tent and RV campers and you won’t be short of outdoor activities to choose from. If you aren’t keen on the traditional idea of camping, you can go glamping or stay in a cabin. As well as offering some amazing glamping and one- or two-bedroom cabin options, Royal Gorge cabins offers things to do in canon city, and can even help you plan your perfect itinerary so you can be sure that you don’t miss out on anything.

Buffalo Pass

Do you want to go camping but also want to be able to enjoy a city night out? Buffalo Pass is right near downtown Steamboat Springs, and there are also two hot springs resorts nearby where you can enjoy a beautiful and relaxing day trip. As well as being an amazing camping spot in its own right you can also enjoy loads of fun activities at the nearby town like river-tubing.
