5 Great Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures

The global health crisis has forced many people to work from home. One side effect of this is that we are spending more and more time on Zoom calls, bringing the focus onto our faces, and, more importantly, our smiles. Many people are wondering what kinds of cosmetic dentistry procedures they can do in order to make their smiles more beautiful. In this article, we will look at 5 great cosmetic dentistry procedures.

  1. Prosthetic Devices

In medicine, prosthetics are artificial devices used to replace missing body parts. In dentistry, prosthetic devices refer to bridges, crowns, dentures, facial prosthesis and other such devices. Prosthetic devices are quite common, so you will have heard about at least one prosthetic device in your life. You may have already had one implanted.

They are very good for filling gaps in teeth, though in the past they may not have fit well with a person’s mouth. Topday, innovations in dentistry mean that dentists can create perfect replicas of your mouth and design prosthetic devices that are a perfect match for your mouth. This is done by creating digital impressions of your mouth, including hard and soft tissues. So, you never need to worry about how well a prosthetic device will fit with your mouth. They are now so well designed that they look and feel natural.

  1. Dental Implants

A dental implant interfaces with the jaw bone or skull in order to support a dental prosthesis or act as an orthodontic anchor. Dental implants have been revolutionized recently thanks to X-guide technology and other innovations. X-guide technology gives real-time feedback to surgeons and other medical professionals during surgical procedures. It has only recently become widely used in dentistry despite being approved by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) since 2015. This means that dentists make fewer mistakes during procedures and/or can quickly correct mistakes so that they do not become too big.

  1. Invisalign

Invisalign is a radical alternative to braces. Like braces, its function is to straighten teeth. However, it does this in a novel way: it uses invisible aligners to straighten teeth, aligners which do not need to be removed with surgery. They look better than braces and are less agonising to remove. However, they are more expensive than braces and take longer to work.

  1. Laser Gum Reshaping

Cosmetic dentistry continues to grow in leaps and bounds. Another great innovation is that of laser gum reshaping. It is used to correct the gum line in a process in which dental lasers remove excess tissue and create even gum lines. This is a departure from a time when gum lines were reshaped by using a scalpel to remove excess tissue and reshape the gumline. Clearly the new procedure is less painful and more efficient.

  1. Veneers

Dental veneers are thin shells the colour of the teeth, that are applied to the surface of teeth in order to improve their appearance.  They are usually made with porcelain or resin-composite materials, but these days, you can also get them from other materials, such as leucite ceramic, lithium disilicate, and stacked or pressed ceramic. Veneers can be made in a way that is so natural that it is impossible to tell that you;ve had veneers applied.
